CGLA held its highly anticipated annual benefit on Thursday, September 30, 2010. Over 1,300 people came together under the night’s theme, “One Voice” to raise over an outstanding $500,000 in the largest and most successful benefit in CGLA history.
Against the beautiful backdrop of the Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago, guests enjoyed an opening reception, silent auction with over 50 exceptional items , and an energy packed program over dinner. This year’s entertainment included an original rap produced by Jason Stanley, setting the tone for an exciting night and reinforcing the idea of “One Voice”, a high intensity performance by rhythmic group Be The Groove, and musical renditions by the acclaimed Whitney M. Young Magnet High School Concert Choir.
During the program CGLA honored Aon Corporation and Illinois Governor, Patrick Quinn, for their remarkable contributions to CGLA and its community. As a leading sponsor of the evening, Aon received the Dr. Kenneth & Margaret Taylor “Spirit of Generosity” Award for its $30,000 sponsorship, as well as many individual employee contributions. Governor Quinn was recognized with the Charles V. Hogren “Distinguished Service” Award for his commitment to forward clemency petitions and end the backlog of inherited from the previous administration.
The highlight of the evening, though, gave testament to the outcomes CGLA strives for in serving all of its clients. Crystal, a former CGLA client, was recognized for her resilience and integrity she demonstrated throughout her case to regain custody of her son who was wrongfully taken from her. CGLA was proud to present her with this year’s Client Courage & Character Award.
In one remarkable evening, CGLA’s many friends, supporters, and sponsors helped raise significant funds to directly impact the lives of thousands of Chicagoans in need of legal assistance in this coming year. Corporations, law firms, and individuals also gave record amounts in sponsorships, including the evening’s other lead sponsor, Sidley Austin. We are blessed to have such a tremendous outpouring of support – thank you for joining with us to give voice!
