"I feel so fortunate to be able to work with the staff and their clients. The first case I worked on was a case for which I'd actually conducted the intake. It was rewarding being able to follow through with the client from start to finish." -CGLA volunteer

Case Handling/Assistance

Volunteer attorneys often will feel strongly about one of the clients they interview and ask to represent him/her. Or, volunteers may have experience or expertise in one of our practice areas and wish to assist our staff attorneys on a case.

Opportunities to handle and assist with cases are available to experienced intake volunteers. Our legal director or the staff attorney in charge of the relevant practice area supervises volunteers.

Training: Case handling/assistance training is conducted one-on-one with CGLA staff. Please inquire at intake meetings for more information.

Requirements: Attorney licensed in the state of Illinois. Experience in CGLA’s intake procedure required.

Suggested Commitment: Volunteer attorneys who agree to handle a case are expected to follow through with the matter until the case is closed.
